Compiled and edited by the well-known poet, Gopikrishnan Kottoor, this anthology offers a tapestry of poetic motifs drawn from the exuberance of Kerala’s distinctive identity. Here is the poetry of the richness of the senses, and of the exciting creative responses of the intellectual and emotional Kerala psyche. Among its explorations are insights into physical identity, nostalgia, traditions, location, language, beliefs, and nativity, that blend to usher in poetry that is intense, lucent, varied and fresh. In this anthology is an almost complete picture of contemporary English poetry being written by poets of Kerala origin, with a kind of fire, ecstasy, warmth, delight, grief, shock, a kind of unsettling at what life, age and decay beckon us to, an awakening to surprise, and an ability to take its inquisitive reader to poetic flights and dwell with him there. This anthology, the first perhaps of its kind, will fulfil a long felt need to bring poets of Kerala from across terrains together. The poetry in this volume will bear testament to their relevance to Indian Poetry in English today.
